About the role

The Team Leader – Southern Operations provides leadership, guidance and decision making for operations staff in the southern region and across the wider organisation. This role is responsible for ensuring water, wastewater, irrigation and drainage assets are operated and maintained in a safe, reliable and efficient manner, while supporting the delivery of essential services and organisational objectives.

Working closely with operational technology, infrastructure planning and service delivery teams, the role provides specialist technical advice, supports maintenance and improvement planning, and helps standardise equipment and procedures across the business. The position also has autonomy to make operational decisions in line with budget constraints to maintain service reliability, safety and performance.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, technical guidance, judgement and safety support to operations teams across the southern region.
  • Lead the team in delivering against organisational objectives, including the corporate plan and 5-year water plan.
  • Support the delivery of safe, compliant and reliable drinking water and wastewater services in line with regulatory, public health and environmental requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee maintenance activities for water, wastewater, irrigation and drainage assets, including treatment plants, networks and associated infrastructure.
  • Manage performance outcomes to ensure compliance with service standards, contractual requirements and reporting obligations.
  • Collaborate across service delivery teams to align work practices, support staff engagement and identify asset renewal and improvement opportunities.
  • Provide input and guidance into maintenance planning, capital works and operational improvement initiatives while complying with all safety and environmental requirements.

About you

We’re looking for a capable people leader with strong operational and technical experience in water or wastewater services, along with the following:

  • Certificate III in Water and Wastewater Industry Operations (Treatment and Management), or comparable industry experience.
  •  Demonstrated leadership experience in an operational environment, with the ability to guide teams and support sound business practices.
  • Strong understanding of the operation and maintenance of water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations or similar infrastructure.
  • Experience in record keeping, data collection, monitoring and reporting against agreed standards and performance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of asset management, maintenance and operations planning, budget control and financial responsibility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
