About the role:

The Environmental Compliance Officer joins LMW’s Environment Team and plays a key role in supporting the organisation to manage environmental impacts, meet legal obligations and improve environmental performance through continuous improvement. The role provides technical advice across a broad range of environmental management and compliance matters.

Working closely with teams across the business, this position helps achieve compliance with EPA licenses and permits, supports environmental assessments and management plans, contributes to environmental risk management and reporting, and helps strengthen LMW’s environmental management framework and processes. The role also builds positive working relationships that support environmental awareness and the integration of environmental considerations into day-to-day operations and decision-making.

Key responsibilities:

  • Assist with the review, development and implementation of risk management and monitoring programs for LMW’s wastewater treatment plants.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development and implementation of LMW’s environmental management framework consistent with ISO 14001 principles.
  • Support compliance with the Environment Protection Act 2017 and broader environmental obligations across areas such as waste, pollution, recycled water, land management, biodiversity and pest and weed management.
  • Secure environmental approvals and help maintain compliance with EPA licence and permit conditions for operational activities.
  • Develop management plans, processes and procedures that support regulatory compliance and environmental risk mitigation.
  • Undertake compliance reporting, including incident notifications, investigations, National Pollutant Inventory reporting and support for annual reporting requirements.
  • Provide environmental advice, review technical documentation and contribute to environmental training and awareness across the business.

About you:

We’re looking for a capable and motivated environmental professional with strong technical knowledge, sound judgement and the ability to work collaboratively across the business, along with the following:

  • Tertiary qualifications in science, environmental studies, engineering or an approved equivalent qualification.
  • Demonstrated experience undertaking compliance inspections, audits and environmental risk assessments.
  • Strong understanding of environmental legislation, regulatory frameworks and compliance obligations, with the ability to interpret requirements and support organisational compliance.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and maintenance of an Environmental Management System.
  • Ability to analyse complex information, prepare clear reports and communicate technical matters effectively to different audiences.
  • Ability to build positive stakeholder relationships, contribute to team priorities and travel to local and remote sites as required.
