Planning Engineer – Capital Works

Lower Murray Water (LMW) is a large regional organisation servicing diverse communities across the region, stretching from Kerang to the South Australian border. About the role: 

LMW Infrastructure Services Department has commenced delivery of 5 years of capital works worth more than $100M, and we’re growing our planning and project delivery teams with this important role to be a part of this exciting program.

Upcoming planning and delivery works include new water treatment plants, water and wastewater main constructions, water and wastewater pump station construction and many more. It is expected the capital works program will continue to grow over the next 10 years. Whether technical, practical and interpersonal skills, we value the individual skill set each person brings to the team, working collaboratively with our project delivery partners to ensure value for money to our customers, contributing to prosperity of the local community.

The Planning Engineer – Capital Works will be part of the early planning and decision-making that drives our infrastructure pipeline. This role focuses on identifying, assessing, prioritising and shaping future capital projects, working closely with our Operations and Delivery teams.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Contribute to strategic planning and capital works prioritisation for water, wastewater, irrigation and drainage services
  • Support development of future capital and renewal projects
  • Maintain a 50-year horizon master plan for water and rural infrastructure.
  • Assist with managing LMW’s 10-year and 20-year Capital Works Plans
  • Review and improve engineering standards and specifications
  • Work with internal teams to design practical, customer-focused solutions

This role suits a mid-career engineer with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and an interest in long-term infrastructure planning.

The role is based in either our Swan Hill or Mildura Office in Victoria’s northwest.

About you:

We require a self-motivated people who are safety conscious looking to work in a fast-paced team environment. To be successful in these roles, you would ideally have some of the following. 

  • Experience in strategic planning or asset management to drive the development and implementation of business cases and strategies for the future capital expenditure and pricing paths at LMW.
  • Experienced engineer with experience in strategic planning, asset management and capital works planning & prioritisation 
  • An analytical thinker with experience in delivering innovative technical solutions and an eye for detail
  • Good communication skills and an ability to manage multiple stakeholders 
  • Understanding of how you work in a safe and effective manner
