time In planning

Lower Murray Water will begin essential refurbishment works on the Kerang Water Tower, located on Vaughan Street, Kerang, starting Monday, 5 May 2025.

The project will involve:

  • Replacing the existing tower roof
  • Conducting internal inspection and repairs
  • Cleaning the internal tank
  • Installing roof perimeter guardrails

To ensure public safety, the playground and park at the tower site will be closed during work hours. Where possible, the area will reopen outside these hours and on weekends.

The works are expected to be completed by late July 2025.

We will provide updates as needed throughout the duration of the project.

The Vaughan Street elevated storage is a reinforced concrete water tower located at the corner of Vaughan and Nolan Streets, Kerang. It was constructed in 1956 and forms a critical part of the town’s water infrastructure, helping maintain essential pressure across the urban network.

The tower roof has reached the end of its serviceable life and will be replaced as a part of the project, along with the installation of roof perimeter guardrails and cleaning and repairs to the internal tank. Completing these works now will improve the tower’s structure and safeguard water quality for the Kerang community.

The works are scheduled to commence Monday, 5 May 2025 and are planned to be completed by late July 2025.

The Tower is supplied from the Kerang water treatment plant. When the roof is removed during the works, the tower will be drained and isolated from the main supply.

Works are scheduled to take place during the off peak season to minimise disruption, with the Kerang treatment plant pump station bearing responsibility for maintaining pressure in the town system during this phase. Water supply is not expected to be disrupted, however small fluctuations in water pressure may occur while the tower is offline. Brief periods of slight water discolouration may occur when the system is recharged, but the water will remain completely safe to drink.

Yes, there will be a closure of the public park on the Water Tower site during the active works, but the site will be opened outside working hours and on weekends if safe to do so.

Yes, nearby residents should take note that contractors will be working at the top of the tower during the project and will inadvertently have line of sight into surrounding yards.

Our team will notify all residents in the affected area ahead of the main works to provide detailed information on the proposed works and timelines, and to seek feedback on how we can minimise disruptions.

Absolutely. Whilst we cannot eliminate them altogether, we will plan to minimise disruptions to the residents as much as possible.
