Finance Officer – Assets

We are looking for a dependable, team orientated person with practical knowledge in asset management, strong financial experience and business acumen to join our Finance Team. Limited tenure position until October 2025.

Lower Murray Water (LMW) is a water corporation providing services to around 80,000 urban and rural customers along the Murray River. Our service region lies within the traditional lands of First Nations Peoples, starting from Barapa Barapa (Koondrook), travelling downstream along the Murray River through Latji Latji (Mildura) and flowing to Ngintai at the South Australian border. About the role:

Reporting directly to the Team Leader Financial Services, this role will work within the team and is responsible for the Asset Ledger, including capturing assets for capitalization and accounting for infrastructure, property plant and equipment and intangible assets across the business. You will produce timely, accurate and relevant financial records relating to assets for inclusion in financial statements that comply with Australia Accounting Standards and Treasury guidelines. Prior water industry experience is not essential, however asset register maintenance, strong financial experience and relevant tertiary accreditation (or working towards) accreditation will help you succeed in this varied role.

Key responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare reconciliations ensuring they are completed, reviewed, and reconciled in a timely manner
  • Process of monthly depreciation
  • Conduct annual impairment review to ensure all impaired assets or revaluations are correctly accounted for
  • Analyse assets accounts, including clearing accounts
  • Ownership of the fixed asset register and accounting for property plant and equipment and intangible assets
  • Manage capitalisation for assets, including POs, invoice, and project asset management
  • Regularly review the asset register, including useful life assessments for depreciation
  • Maintain comprehensive work instructions and support documentation
  • Identify system improvement opportunities for the Finance team
  • Assist with audits and provide necessary samples
  • Support Accounts Payable as required
  • Always represent LMW professionally
  • Be flexible with availability and hours as overtime and out-of-hours work may be required around end of financial year

About you:

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with:

  • Ideally experience or practical knowledge in either finance or asset (including asset revaluation), or the enthusiasm to learn
  • Good communication skills and leadership potential  
  • Ability to work as part of a team with a can-do attitude
  • Understanding of how to work in a safe and effective manner
  • Tertiary accreditations would be an advantage but are not essential
